The Government’s Planning Portal is really excellent. Full of useful and essential information. An interactive animation takes you through all the essentials and you can search for your LPA (Local planning Authority) and even apply through the site.

The NHBC offer a 10 year insurance for self builders. Its called SOLO are can be applied for on line. Costs depend on build size. Properties under 150sqm start at £2300.

The Self Build Portal was officially launched in April 2012. It is the result of a joint initiative between the Government, NaSBA and the custom build housing industry. The site provides encouragement and impartial advice to people who want to build their own home to suit their family’s needs. It forms part of the Government’s Housing Strategy to bring about a custom build housing revolution.
