The Famous 7 year plan!
Taking a training course in a specific trade or a general course in Self Build, could pay huge dividends for your own project. Its not just being able to do some work yourself, its also about understanding the processes involved as well as the costs involved. If you are a “hands-on” person, one of the best ways of getting involved is to be the “plumber’s mate” or “gofer” on your own project. It will be hugely rewarding.
Probably the largest independent database of scheduled courses and training providers in the UK.
They maintain the 'UK Training Index' a complete listing which holds details on over 20,000 courses offered by approximately 1,250 different organisations it is updated by Underoak daily.
The National Self Build & Renovation Centre are offer a series of 3-day courses in self build and renovation, aimed at those people contemplating undertaking a property-building project. Whilst primarily aimed at novices, those who have already started or completed a project will undoubtedly find the course useful too.
Covering 11 topics in total, the courses take the form of informal workshops and make use of the superb practical exhibits available in the Centre to provide attendees with a level of knowledge which guarantees their projects will go more smoothly.
Each course will cost £335 including VAT if paid a month before course, otherwise £375. Note that a maximum of 20 delegates will be enrolled for each course.

Day 2 Design & Specification, Planning Permission & Permitted Development, Building Regulations, Project Management & Site Set Up.
Day 3 Eco Legislation, Internal Services, Heat & Energy Technologies, Fixtures & Finishes: An Eco Slant.
